Day 3: Invest in You and Have More Happiness in Life

When you decide to improve your physical health you will experience greater mental and emotional well-being. Have you taken the time to think about what you could accomplish today if you started now to take action steps forward to improve your health, become empowered, and feel more remarkable about yourself?

There are times when emotions get the best of us. I know this has happened to me. Managing my emotions has been a constant battle over the years until I learned they can be a force to guide you. Emotions can be a clear indication in letting you know is going on inside your mind and heart. You can make up a story to mask them, or choose to ignore the signs but you will give yourself the greatest gift in life if you learn to listen and do something good with your emotions. It’s better to take the initiative and respond accordingly instead of reacting in that moment. You’ll always be at your best when you let your emotions NOT get the best of you. Be patient with yourself so you can learn how to handle the emotions that you are feeling. You’ll learn a lot about yourself as you discover that you can control life and not let life control you.

I ignored my emotions for years and stuffed them down. I always thought it was weak and wrong to show my emotions; however this is not the case, and what’s more is that it’s so unhealthy for you to push your emotions down. Many times we go through this because it’s a learned behavior from past experiences, as it was in my case. My dad rarely showed his emotions and held everything inside him so he wouldn’t hurt me. I made up my own story in my mind to answer the hurt and told myself over and over how weak I was.   On my well-being journey, I have learned that was not the truth, but only a story that I kept telling myself and believed to be true. Now I have changed my thoughts around this story and reconciled the emotions that limited me for so long. I’ve learned to let go of many stories, and so can you.

Emotions can be your best friend even though it might not feel that way in that one particular moment. Have you ever heard this saying? “To feel good is God Given”. I didn’t until very recently. God wants you to feel good, to be happy and to be strong. You don’t have to be perfect, only do your best. In times of struggle turn to Him for his guidance and he will be by your side. You are never alone, nothing to fear, and no worries about being judged. You are in charge of your own emotions and have a place to have them rest when they become too strong for you to deal with. Your emotions are from within; you can do anything that you set your mind to. Feel them, don’t stuff them down. So when there are challenges to overcome, you must stop and believe resolution is possible; once you do you will begin to see the answers. Find the good in all the circumstances and trust in the presence of God to handle what may seem too much to bear.

I have come to realize that when I allow my emotions to control me I don’t feel good from within. When I’m not emotionally and/or mentally grounded, I’m at my most vulnerable. This leads me to act out in unhealthy ways like making unhealthy food choices, drinking alcohol and harboring a negative mindset. This ultimately makes me unhappy from within. Here are some thoughts in the spirit of Pure Love from my colleague and friend Gena Livings.

We have to accept this gift from “within” and act on it by not allowing our emotions to rule us. There is so much to life, if you look closely. Opportunities are everywhere and there is “always” room to grow.  Everybody is different so it’s up to you to engage, experience, and be empowered in order to make a real change in your life.

  1. Be kind and gentle to yourself.
  2. Practice forgiveness and let go of the past. It’s so rewarding and freeing when you do.
  3. Be thankful for what you have right now.
  4. Surround yourself with people who you trust and support you.
  5. Remember, there is always a choice. Decide today to choose what gives you happiness and a feeling of all is well.
  6. Feel your emotions, manage them, and don’t stuff them down. Stop, take a breadth, don’t hold them inside your body, and let them go.
  7. Give your emotions love and let them be one of your best friends.
  8. Be compassionate, send your love, a smile or a hug and create a different feeling that brings more joy and peace within. Others will also feel your energy when you are around them.
  9. Have a good laugh with a friend today; laughter is good for the soul.
  10. Create a healthy lifestyle which will make you feel better, sharper and more focused by doing routines which you like, inspire you, and are fun.

Start trusting yourself and managing your emotions better. Don’t worry so much about what others think and you will begin developing a sense of freedom and be less emotional and in more control. Feel better, happier, and become inspired to do more in life. Be open to change and ready to make health and well-being more of a priority. Doing so will help you to find life more fulfilling and gratifying. Create the change for your stage of life that will make the difference in your wealth, well-being, and happiness. Even the smallest steps are enough. Be the one to create the lifestyle you always dream about.  You have the power. Invest in YOU!
